Dear Parent or Guardian: The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines: Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms: · Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough · Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep) · Headache · Mild stomach ache Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms: · Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mouth and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours) · Vomiting (even once) – Students must stay home for 24 hours after vomiting. · Diarrhea · Chills · General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches · Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough · Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits: · Wash hands frequently · Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth · Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands · Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours without medication. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom. Thank you. Megan Nowak, RN OPS Nurse

Earlier this evening several groups of Prairie View students had the opportunity to present to the Keith County Foundation Funds Youth Inspired Philanthropy Project! These students are examples of what it means to be a risk taker! All the groups had develop a plan, set a budget, make connections with various individuals/organizations, put together a presentation, and present to the YIP Board and audience. We are so proud to share that all the projects were awarded funding for this year. What a great organization and event! A huge thanks to all involved. #CultureOfConfidence

The Ogallala High School JAG (Jobs for America's Graduates) program recently joined fellow JAG programs from across western Nebraska for a college campus tour of Wyoming Technical Institute (Wyoming Tech) in Laramie, WY. Our students had the opportunity to explore Wyoming Tech's diverse range of programs, from automotive and diesel technology to welding and collision repair. They learned about hands-on training, job placement rates, and the potential career paths available in these high-demand fields. The visit allowed our students to envision themselves taking the next steps in their education and career journey and inspired them to consider the options available for a bright future. We’re so proud of our students for taking the initiative to explore their career interests and look forward to seeing where their aspirations take them! #CultureOfConfidence

Mrs. Staab's Kindergarten students have been practicing being thankful and grateful for who and what they have. The students wrote and illustrated their own 'I Am Thankful' books to take home and share with their grownups. They also practiced their reading skills by reading the books to the Junior Kindergarten students in Mrs. Van Velson's class. We love that these students are risk-takers and willing to share their learning with other students! #CultureOfConfidence
