At the November OPSD School Board meeting, the board honored 3 model students and one dedicated staff member! These students & staff have shown what it means to do things “The OG Way.” They are risk-takers in and out of the classroom, show grit in all they do, and take ownership of their learning. We are so proud of our November students of the month, Isabel McBride (elementary), George Herman (middle grades), Michael Tophoj (high school), and staff of the month, Jennifer Jones! Keep up the great work! We greatly appreciate our community sponsors for donating prizes for these individuals to honor their accomplishments! #GoBigO #OGIndians #TheOGWay #CultureOfConfidence

Mrs. Saults’s 4th-grade class is diving into Nebraska Native American history as part of their social studies curriculum. The students are hard at work researching interesting facts about the history, culture, and traditions of Native American tribes in Nebraska. They’re channeling their newfound knowledge into creating colorful and informative posters to share with their peers and deepen everyone’s understanding of this important topic.
Our 3rd graders had an awesome time combining science and fun! During a friendly game of tug-of-war, they explored the concepts of balanced and unbalanced forces, a key part of Nebraska science standards on motion and energy. Seeing these forces in action helped them connect classroom learning to real-world scenarios.

3rd-grade students are presented with a science challenge every year. The challenge is to build a structurally sound bridge out of only two pieces of paper. Carly and Andy were this year's Bridge Challenge WINNERS! They were able to hold 90 1-inch tiles on their structure! What a great challenge and even better problem-solvers!

This class took ownership of their learning, showed grit on their assignments, and took risks in the classroom. They also set a great example of what it means to be respectful, responsible, and safe. These exemplary attributes earned them the most points, and they chose to use those points for a class pizza and movie party. Keep up the great work!

Dear Parent or Guardian:
The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
· Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
· Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
· Headache
· Mild stomach ache
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
· Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mouth and your child may return to school only after his or her temperature has been consistently below 100 degrees, by mouth, for a minimum of 24 hours)
· Vomiting (even once) – Students must stay home for 24 hours after vomiting.
· Diarrhea
· Chills
· General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
· Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
· Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:
· Wash hands frequently
· Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
· Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
· Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
Colds are the most contagious during the first 48 hours. A child who has a fever should remain at home until "fever free" for a minimum of 24 hours without medication. Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
Thank you.
